Neetika Sharma is not just a pretty face but a very beautiful brain. The girl who recently grabbed the title of Miss Himachal 2019 is a multitasker and a go-getter. A literature student, a hath yoga trainer and what not, in one word we can call her an inspirational figure. We are Himachali proudly presents an interview with Miss Himachal 2019 Neetika Sharma.

First of all we would like you to introduce yourself to our lovely audience.

A mountain kid, in love with anything/everything wild & natural. It’s a blessing in disguise, growing up collecting daisies and ferns, drenching oneself in mountain soil, chasing butterflies and hunting for wild berries. I’ve spent 24 summers of my life doing all this in and around Himachal. Born & brought up in Shimla, my roots are from district Sirmour. Like any other village in the Himalayan region, we too experience heavy snowfall & life that’s hard. I guess that’s what keeps oneself motivated. That’s what keeps oneself grounded too. People & their simplicity, their hard work and sheer hearts of gold are what my people are known for. I feel extremely proud to call myself part of that culture. I have a sibling, a younger brother pursuing an Honours degree in Physics from Amity University, Noida. My maa is a JBT Teacher and father is Section Officer in HP Secretariat.

You just grabbed Miss Himachal 2019 title, how is the feeling? How do you evaluate your success?

Achieving anything in life is a process. You don’t just think about it one fine day and boom! It’s there the next day. No. Getting to where I am today was a process and still is. I am the hard work of my teachers, endless support of my family, unconditional love of my friends and of course manifestation of all the prayers & blessings of my loved ones. Seeing the biggest grin on their faces, pride in their eyes is a success for me. A true victory, rather.

Was this your first attempt in the field of glamour or were you active beforehand?

In a beauty pageant, of course, it was my first attempt. But I’ve been active in the field of glamour on & off. I’ve done an advertisement shoot for Vi-John India in 2016. After that, I did a calendar shoot for MIST CALENDAR 2017.

Who do you credit for your success, who motivated you towards this field, who are the people behind your success?

From a girl, a cousin, sitting on the porch of her home looking at the fields thinking about all the things she could’ve done, if she’d been given a chance to my teachers who made me believe in my alter ego, the self I never knew existed within me, the one I worked hard for.

From my friends who constantly pushed me towards better, to the “Women of my Life” who taught me what an educated, loving woman is capable of. Each one of them. My mother, my Nani, my Masis, Mita mam, Maheema di, Aditi, Dheera, Preeto, Anju, Swati di, Sangeeta aunty, Neeloo aunty, Sushma aunty, Shakuntala aunty, Sonia di.. names are endless.. but these are the ladies behind me. There are few men too. But I seek my motivation from strong, independent, loving women.

How life has changed after winning the title?

Life has definitely changed after winning the title. In a good way, of course. Recognition is a major part of it. You get to experience a whole new world of fame. With such a title comes a huge responsibility too, as you are now representing not just your culture and values but whole State.

What is next now?

Next is, bigger dreams, better ones. Definitely working harder each day for that.

Apart from modeling, what are your other interests?

I’m a literature student, words are closest to my heart. Reading and writing is something I have an affair with. Creative juices flow through my veins. I am into Arts & Crafts and have a little startup with my two other friends. It’s called ‘Buns & Barrels’. I love, absolutely love traveling. Making blogs &

vlogs are something I’ve done in recent past just for fun but want to take up seriously, now. I’m a certified Hatha yoga trainer also, love to practice Yoga. I have taught kids for the longest time. Teaching is a passion too but more than that, connecting with kids. I’ve taught in Schools, Institutes and Colleges. And I unreservedly take great pleasure in doing that.

With this title is your career trajectory has changed or are you still rooting for the career you had beforehand?

I can’t stick with one thing. I’ve always been a multitasker. I think that’s what keeps me motivated and striving for more. Entering in the field of glamour has only broadened my horizons. I would definitely explore this line more but nothing like sticking with only “glamour”. Indeed I want to complete my studies simultaneously and who knows there’s something better than this, awaiting?

As you have now become a public figure, how do you conceive your new responsibilities?

With name & fame, comes responsibilities that we aren’t aware of. Understanding them, working on them, using the platform for the greater good, becoming the voice of the voiceless, are few things I see myself working on.

Any memorable moment during this journey which you would like to share?

Beauty Pageants are all about winning “by hook or by crook”. I had only heard. And boy! I was scared. I don’t know but I must tell you, I met the most genuine, loving, caring and kind girls. One time we’ve had some issue and all the girls including our mentor, Miss Akanksha worked it out together. I remember, spending the whole night resolving the matter, even though we had to wake up early for rehearsals the very next day. When we entered Miss Himachal, we were just a handful of girls from around the state. But when we left, we were indeed, sisters from the same motherland, Himachal. We’ve made memories, we’ve shared joy and tears. We had no idea we will become such an integral part of each other’s lives, especially after the competition.

Lastly, what would be your message for the girls who wish to be a part of the glamour world?

Don’t be afraid. Educate yourself enough, beauty is not limited to looks, brains play the most important role. Makeup, camera tricks and photoshop can transform anyone today, but books, intelligence & a kind heart is needed more for a radiating persona that’s beautiful not just from the outside but from the very core, from the inside. And trust me, when I say: You have the ability to change the World.
