Gurgaon / Gurugram : Two held in gangrape of women and murder of Infant : Is Delhi / NCR any safe for women?

The alleged incident took place in Gurgaon / Gurugram on May 29-30, 2017

Gurugram / Gurgaon is in news, and all because of a bad reason.

An alleged gang rape and murder incident took place on May 29th-30th when the alleged victim women left for her father’s in law home after having a dispute in the locality. Along with her, she took her 9-month-old daughter.

Least she knew that her night would turn into the worst nightmare of her life. She reported that she initially took a lift from a Canter but later got off when the driver tried molesting her.

She then took a tempo which had two men and a driver.  However, after crossing the Kherki Daula toll plaza, the driver, the victim alleged, turned the tempo around and returned to the dhaba to pick up an accomplice.

According to police, the woman alleged that the three men then took her to a vacant plot in Sector 8, where they took turns to rape her.

She alleged that before they raped her, they threw her daughter from the moving vehicle because she had started wailing.

“We initially registered cases under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, since the woman did not mention the gangrape. However, on June 3, she returned and told us the entire story, and Section 376D (gangrape) was added,” said Dharambir Singh, ACP (Manesar).

She then went to the spot where they had earlier thrown her nine-month-old daughter and picked her up in the middle of road and went to a hospital.

The doctors declared the infant dead but still she did not believe it and travelled with the dead child to a hospital in Delhi and later returned to MG Road metro station.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar admitted that the victim had travelled with her dead child in the metro the day after the incident and police learnt about the crime only after the victim’s husband approached them.

“Her husband and Gurgaon police received the victim from MG Road metro station after she returned from hospital in Delhi. Following that, police conducted post-mortem of the infant,” Khirwar said.

It has been alleged that as the victim belongs to a poor family, the police tried to suppress her statement.

Police now has released the sketches of the accused and also tweeted that women’s safety is foremost for them.

The victim in the Manesar rape case is being counselled to deal with the trauma. Women’s safety is and will always be a top priority for us.

They also confirmed arresting of 2 accuse out of three and said no effort will be spared to bring justice to the victim.

How the case proceeds is another thing, if accused are convicted, we wish the worst punishment for them but again, even after 5 years of Nirbhaya Rape Case, Delhi NCR is still not safe for women.
